Immigrated to US. from Parry Sound, Ontario Canada in spring of 1879 to Bristol, South Dakota One of the first settlers in the area.
George M said "They go back a long way" (in their linage).
Owned a home in town of Bristol, SD.
Rankins later moved into House in Bristol
Was a charter member of the United Methodist Church.
Found on 1900 census in Kidder township, Day county, SD.
Found on 1910 census in Bristol Village, Day county, SD.
Day County History has a Clayton & Mildred Farrington born in 1867 and homesteaded in Scotland Township. They were married in 1880 and came to the Dakota Territory in 1886. They farmed in sections 1 & 12. They had 1 daughter, Hazel, and were Episcopalians.

Individual note:   Immigrated to US in 1880 from Canada Mother & Father born in Canada Was a practical nurse. Helped many babies be delivered into the world.
She was very distinquished figure, carrying herself straight and tall. Always wore her hair with ringlets to the neck line with a black ribbon.
Was a charter member of the United Methodist Episcopal Church.
She passed away at the age of 80 years and interred at the Bristol cemetery.

Worked for the Milwaukee Railroad and stationed in Marmouth, ND. and Tacoma WA. Grew up together with George M. in Bristol
Visited George & Ida in Hysham, Montana
Moved to Tacoma Washington in 1938
Was cremated and remains dropped in forest area near St. Helens.

Individual note:    Horatio was born in Maine and at 10 years old moved to Dakota county, Minn area with his folks (abt 1869 per HNS obit). They moved to Renville county 2 1/2 years later. Horatio was a farmer all his life. He was short, stocky and a very strong man, who wore a mustache. He grew up in Henryville (Beaverfalls), MN and met Matilda Anderson.
Horatio bought his father's farm and woodlot in section 32 of Renville county in 1882 for $1400. He then sold the property to A. Burchardt in 1884 for $1200. He then moved with his folks to Day county Dakota and homesteaded a farm 2 1/2 miles NE of Bristol, SD.
Horatio came back to Beaverfalls to marry his childhood sweet heart, Mathilda. They were married by Rev. R.B. Satterlee, Methodist Episcopal Church on 11/13/1886. Horatio was about 27 and Matilda 21. They then left for his homestead in Bristol, SD and had ten children.
For 25 years, he suffered from chronic gastritis and disease of the heart. Horatio chewed tobacco and died of starvation due to the outlet of his stomach closed off. Probably due to cancer. The funeral was handled by the ME. Church by Rev.
Wilkinson.
The family is listed in 1900 Federal census in Kidder township, Day county, SD. On 5/13/1900 he became a member of IOOF and was very faithful and active. The work of the IOOF was on of his joys and was his chief form of recreation. He served on several school boards and was active in the town business.
(He worked as town clerk for several years. In 1903 became secretary for co-op creamery in Bristol. He was anti-religious and a follower of Thomas Payne. He also belonged to an organization called Maineites. A local group of people, who originally came from Maine./cs)
The family was also listed in the 1910 census in Bristol Village, Day county, SD.
